This Valentine’s Day, spread the love and romance around with these Valentine love quotes:

Do not be in a hurry; depend upon it, the right Man will come at last; you will in the course of the next two or three years, meet with somebody more generally unexceptional than anyone you have yet known, who will love you as warmly as ever He did, and who will so completely attach you, that you will feel you never really loved before.
–Jane Austen

Tell me how much you know of the sufferings of your fellow men and I will tell you how much you love them.
–Helmut Thielicke,  German theologian and preacher

Love is not a feeling; it’s an act of the will.
–Don Francisco

The little unremembered acts of kindness and love are the best parts of a person’s life.
–Author Unknown

Love has its own instinct, finding the way to the heart, as the feeblest insect finds the way to its flower, with a will which nothing can dismay nor turn aside.
–Balzac

A lady’s imagination is very rapid; it jumps from admiration to love, from love to matrimony in a moment
–Jane Austen

Love is like some fresh spring, first a stream and then a river, changing its aspect and its nature as it flows to plunge itself in some boundless ocean, where restricted natures only find monotony, but where great souls are engulfed in endless contemplation
–Balzac

The principal form that the work of love takes is attention. When we love another person we give him or her our attention; we attend to that person’s growth.
–Author Unknown

You can give without loving, but you can’t love without giving. Love means giving up, yielding my preferences, comfort, goals, security, money, energy or time for the benefit of someone else.
–Charlie

The greatest thing you’ll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return.
–Author Unknown

Life has taught us that love does not consist in gazing at each other but in looking outward together in the same direction.
–Author Unknown

I don’t understand why Cupid was chosen to represent Valentine’s Day. When I think about romance, the last thing on my mind is a short, chubby toddler coming at me with a weapon.
–Author Unknown

For you see, each day I love you more, today more than yesterday and less than tomorrow.
–Rosemonde Gerard

Love is a symbol of eternity. It wipes out all sense of time, destroying all memory of a beginning and all fear of an end.
–Author Unknown

Love – a wildly misunderstood although highly desirable malfunction of the heart which weakens the brain, causes eyes to sparkle, cheeks to glow, blood pressure to rise and the lips to pucker.

The Origin of Valentine’s Day

How did these dating, card-sending, and flowers, chocolates, and candy-giving holiday begin?

Valentine’s Day began in the 3rd century in Rome when a priest named Valentine lived during the reign of Roman emperor Claudius II, also known as “Claudius the Cruel.” While he was serving in the Roman war, Emperor Claudius II was also having great difficulty enlisting men into his military leagues. The emperor realized that the married men did not want to leave their wives to serve in the military, and many of the single men had sweethearts or girlfriends that they, too, did not want to be away from.

Claudius decided he would put an end to his problem. He ordered that no more marriages were to be performed and that all engagements were to be annulled. Valentine chose to disobey the emperor’s command. He strongly believed in love between two people that he began performing marriages in secret for his fellow army men. They would come to Valentine wanting to marry the love of their lives before going into battle.

The emperor became so angry and put Valentine to death. While waiting in jail, Valentine began exchanging letters with the jailer’s daughter and soon had fallen in love with her. The day he was to be beheaded, he wrote her one last note and signed it: ‘From Your Valentine’. The emperor knew he couldn’t enforce so he reinstated legal marriage. St. Valentine is honored each year to this day for his belief in love and the concept of marriage.

And that is how Valentine’s Day began. To celebrate Hearts Day romantically, send out these Valentine’s Day Myspace Comments or give romantic Valentine’s Day Gifts to your special someone!

January 20, 1986, was the first celebration of Martin Luther King Day, the only federal day commemorating an African-American. The ceremony took place in an old railroad depot in Atlanta Georgia, hundreds had gathered to sing and march. Some of the people who attended the march during 1965 for fifty miles between two cities in the state of Albama for the fight against discrimination of black Americans.

Congressmen and citizens all throughout the 1980’s controversy had petitioned the president to make January 15, Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday, a federal holiday. But on the other hand, some wanted to make it on the day that he died, while others did not want to have any holiday at all.

For many years, 27 states and Washington D.C observed January 15 as a public holiday. At last n 1986, President Ronald Reagan declared the 3rd Monday of January a federal holiday commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday.

Schools, offices and federal agencies are closed for the holiday. On Monday there are quiet memorial services as well as elaborate ceremonies in honor of Dr. King. On the preceding Sunday, ministers of all religions give special sermons reminding everyone of Dr. King’s lifelong work for peace. All weekend, popular radio stations play songs and speeches that tell the history of the Civil Rights Movement. Television channels broadcast special programs with filmed highlights of Dr. King’s life and times.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day to everyone of us! Let freedom ring this MLk Day!

Born January 15, 1929 Martin Luther King Jr., he is a man of much wisdom for his time. He was the important voice of the American civil rights movement, which worked for equal rights for all. King was famous for using nonviolent resistance to overcome injustice. He also did all he could to make people realize that “all men are created equal.”

During the boycott and his increasingly public presence, King was arrested and was also the target of violence and threats on his life. After one of his arrest, he wrote the famous Letter from a Birmingham Jail, outlining his beliefs and his hopes for the future of America.

His message of nonviolence was heeded by many and scorned by others. His hope for an America without color lines is still an ongoing pursuit, according to many people. But his name lives on as a symbol of freedom and determination. Just about everywhere you go in the world; you’ll find someone who has heard his name. You can also find his name on street signs and schools around the United States.

The civil rights leader was in Memphis to support a sanitation workers’ strike and was on his way to dinner when a bullet struck him in the jaw and severed his spinal cord. King was pronounced dead after his arrival at a Memphis hospital. He was 39 years old.
